Services
The aTENSION project aims to help create a better mental health service for both service providers and service users. To achieve its aim the project will work with both sides, identifying problems and finding tangible, sustainable and practical solutions. If necessary, the project will undertake work to kick start initiatives.
Below is a list of the services and functions the project provides or carrys out;
Services offered to professionals
- Provide or can link you to Cultural Awareness Training
- Support frontline staff deal with ethnic minority patients
- Give advice, information and guidance about BME religions, culture, traditions, and so on
- Link to BME organisations, support groups and volunteers
- Accept some referrals from frontline staff, Social Isolation cases for example.
Services to Community
- "Feel Good Group" a women's support group
This is a support group for BME women living in the Gateshead area.
Every Monday from 12 to 3 pm at Bensham Grove Community Centre (Sidney Grove).
New members are welcome. Ring (0191 4784103) for details.
- Raise Awareness about mental health services
- Help and Support local BME people access mental health services
- Advice local BME how to complain about the mental health service, e.g. through PALs
- Link people to other BME "Support Groups" in Gateshead
- Search and Host local BME volunteers
- Provide access and, some, funds towards the training of BME volunteers
- Read letters and bills
- Funding Advice to organisations
- Provide Benefit Advice
- Provide Legal Advice, e.g. immigration issues
- Instruct the set up of new BME organisations
