There is very low representation of BME people in low to moderate mental health care compared to their White counterparts.  At the same time there is high representation of BME people in severe and critical mental health care compared to their White counterparts.

So to raise Mental Health awareness with the diverse communities and help them access early intervention models, and thereby reduce numbers in severe and critical care the Department of Health has commissioned the DRE initiative in 19 regions of the UK.  This project is one part of the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear region.  Here we aim to bring to life the hopes and aspirations of the initiative by working closely and jointly with both user and carer groups.
